How we teach

A curriculum built to get children ready — for kindergarten and for life

We use developmentally appropriate, hands-on curriculums for children 18 months through pre-K, built around weekly and monthly themes. Classrooms are arranged as learning centers, so children can choose and explore at their own pace, with a healthy balance of teacher-guided and child-led activities.

The goal is simple: children who walk into kindergarten confident and prepared. Local public-school teachers regularly tell us how ready our children are on day one.

In parents' words

Families love The Settlement

I am currently a Montgomery County educator, and I can attest to the fact that children who attend The Settlement come to Kindergarten more than ready. Settlement students are not only academically, but also socially prepared to begin their school careers.

— A Montgomery County educator

My children have thrived in the loving and nurturing environment The Settlement provides. I will be sad when our preschool years are over, but proud of the fact that my children have a head start by attending a top-notch child care center. I highly recommend The Settlement.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to what parents ask us most. Still curious? Ask our helper below or give us a call.

What ages do you care for?
We care for children from 12 months through pre-kindergarten in age-grouped classrooms, plus a private kindergarten and before/after-school care for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. Our before/after program also runs as a summer day camp.
What are your hours?
We're open 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Our private kindergarten day runs 8:15 AM–3:15 PM, with before- and after-care (6:00–8:15 AM and 3:15–6:00 PM) included at no extra cost. Tours are welcome 9:00–11:00 AM or 2:00–4:30 PM, or by appointment.
Do you have current openings?
Yes! We currently have full-time openings for ages 12–24 months and 2, 3, 4, and 5 years, plus a part-day option for 3s and 4s (Tuesday–Friday, 8:30 AM–12:00 PM). The best next step is to schedule a tour — come see us and we'll sign you up.
Is potty training required?
All children 3 years and older must be potty trained. Our infant and toddler rooms (12 months through 2 years) do not have this requirement.
How much does it cost?
Our private kindergarten is $195 per week with a one-time $450 registration fee, and before/after care is included at no extra cost. For current preschool and childcare tuition by age, please call us at 931-647-1900 or ask during your tour.
When does kindergarten start, and how big are the classes?
Our 2026–2027 kindergarten begins August 3, 2026, and is capped at just 14 students — compared to 25+ in a typical public classroom — so your child gets real one-on-one attention from a licensed, certified Tennessee teacher. Children must turn 5 by August 15 (we can accept birthdays through September 30 for testing).
How do I schedule a tour or enroll?
Stop by for a tour weekdays from 9:00–11:00 AM or 2:00–4:30 PM (or by appointment), and we'll help you find the right fit and sign up on the spot. You can also request a tour online or call 931-647-1900.
